Floors Specialist

Job Summary:

The primary purpose of the Floor Specialist position is to perform the day-to-day floor cleaning and maintenance activities to ensure a clean and pleasant environment for residents, families and staff. The Floor Specialist must coordinate daily floor cleaning with nursing services when performing routine cleaning assignments in resident living and/or recreational areas, as well as other duties as assigned by the Administrator, to ensure that our facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and comfortable manner.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily floor cleaning and maintenance in resident rooms, hallways, dining areas, and common spaces.
  • Operate floor cleaning machines such as scrubbers, buffers, and vacuums safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain and clean floor surfaces including carpet, tile, and hardwood.
  • Coordinate with nursing staff to schedule floor cleaning activities, ensuring minimal disruption to residents.
  • Perform routine inspections of floor surfaces and address any potential safety hazards or cleanliness issues.
  • Follow infection control protocols to prevent the spread of germs and ensure the safety of residents and staff.
  • Adhere to safety policies and procedures for handling cleaning products and equipment.
  • Assist in setting up rooms for special events or activities as needed.
  • Report any maintenance issues, such as damaged flooring or equipment malfunctions, to the Administrator.
  • Ensure proper signage and warnings are in place when floors are being cleaned or are wet.

Other maintenance responsibilities:

  • Assist with general cleaning tasks such as dusting, trash removal, and window cleaning.
  • Respond to maintenance requests from staff or residents for minor floor repairs or cleaning.
  • Assist in cleaning and maintaining other areas of the facility when needed, including common areas and outdoor spaces.
  • Assist any other maintenance responsibilities

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in floor maintenance or environmental services is preferred, particularly in healthcare or nursing home setting.
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques and floor care products.
  • Experience operating floor cleaning machinery such as buffers, scrubbers, and vacuums is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of infection control standards and procedures.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy objects, such as floor cleaning equipment (up to 50 pounds).
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and stoop for extended periods of time while performing floor cleaning duties.
  • Ability to work with cleaning chemicals and follow safety guidelines for handling hazardous materials.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive motions such as scrubbing and sweeping.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.

 

Work Schedule

Varied, May be required to work Overtime on a regular basis.
